The animals involved in the Ca.Stella project can only be visited at Ca.Stella FARM and not within the campsite.
Enjoy a unique experience for adults and children alike, discovering the mountains accompanied by friendly and gentle animals: alpacas and llamas. During the campsite’s opening months, you can take a leisurely stroll around Ca.Stella Farm, immersed in the tranquillity of Monte San Giorgio.
During the trek, guided by one of our therapists, you will also get to know these gentle and highly intelligent animals and learn their secrets, the properties of their wool, shearing techniques and much more.
The trek must be booked in advance as, particularly during the high season, places are limited. Please therefore contact the campsite reception well in advance and not upon arrival. Thank you!
The animals involved in the Ca.Stella project can only be seen at Ca.Stella FARM and not at the campsite. You can meet them on a 60-minute guided tour, accompanied by a therapist. This activity does not involve riding horses, ponies or donkeys.
Alternatively, you can view our animals from outside the enclosures via the tarmac road. You cannot access the FARM freely, but only when accompanied by staff, as groups of children, people with disabilities and others are using the FARM and must not be disturbed.

Remodelled and expanded by the Ticinese architect Mario Botta, the Fossil Museum in Meride exhibits a selection of fossilized animals and plants from the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site of Monte San Giorgio. The 2.5-meter-long reconstruction of the saurian Ticinosuchus welcomes visitors to the fossil museum in the centre of the village of Meride. Across four floors, the Museum presents a huge variety of fossils, illustrations, models and three-dimensional animations in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). These explain how the fossils from this long extinct world have been excavated, prepared and scientifically described by experts since 1850.
The quarry complex is located on Monte San Giorgio (UNESCO WHL). The development of the natural-science amphitheatre project has offered the opportunity to restore and enhance the environmental mosaic represented by the large ancient red gravel quarry. This natural space also encompasses a geo- tope and a number of very interesting biological communities. An imposing and fascinating outdoor space, which aims to promote the site’s significant historical and natural features, created for the purpose of hosting public and private events.

only 2 km away The small village of Tremona has become known for its archaeological excavations which have been carried out since 2000. Teams of archaeologists and volunteers have uncovered well-preserved remains of a hilltop settlement which, with its remarkable finds, provides unique insights into the past of the region. Most of all, archaeology shows what life was like in a medieval village. Excavations have revealed how the villagers lived and died, how their houses were built and what conditions were like for both peasants and the lord of the castle.
Monte San Giorgio is a living legend of a historical masterpiece with fossils dating back to over 200 million years ago. Back then, it was surrounded by a lagoon and was partially separated from the open sea, due to which various marine life flourished in the region making it a rich source of fossils. These marine life and invertebrate can still be seen in the Fossil Museum in Meride for visitors who want to relive the early moments of Middle Triassic period.
Would you like to take a walk on the Monte San Giorgio? You can just take the boat from Lugano or move from Capolago by bus to Brusino Arsizio. You can reach Serpiano by cableway in a few minutes. From Serpiano you can discover by foot the UNESCO World Natural Heritage and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake of Lugano.

The Vincenzo Vela Museum is one of the most important artists’ house-museums to have been erected in nineteenth-century Europe. Conceived by the great realist sculptor Vincenzo Vela from Ticino (1820-91) at the height of his career, and transformed into a public museum after it was donated to the Swiss state, in addition to Vincenzo Vela’s gallery of monumental plaster casts it includes the bequests of the sculptor Lorenzo Vela (1812-97) and painter Spartaco Vela (1854-95), a remarkable collection of nineteenth-century Lombard and Piedmontese paintings, hundreds of autograph drawings and one of the earliest private collections of photographs in Switzerland.

Swissminiatur is Switzerland’s largest open-air miniature museum. Located in Melide, on the shores of Lake Lugano, the park is surrounded by majestic mountains including Monte Generoso, San Salvatore and also San Giorgio, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the southernmost valley of the Swiss Confederation, which is crossed by the Breggia river. On its territory we find important traces of the past: the nevère, the roccolo, the wash houses, the Bruzzella mill and the graa. Particularly noteworthy is also the valley’s Ethnographic Museum in Cabbio.
It is a protected natural area and the special feature of this park is its geology, with spectacular rocks and several routes within it. The Cement Trail is the most eminent element of the environmental improvement carried out in the area of the former cement works SACEBA. The trail is located at the entrance of the gorge of the Breggia river, in the geological Park of the Gole della Breggia. The walk goes through the infrastructures of the old works to show the visitors the steps of the production, from the rock to the finished cement. At the same time, it points out two very different realities, the rural one and the industrial one, that coexisted for almost half a century in the same territory. The requalification of the industrial area is a unique example in Switzerland and represents an important testimony of a time that has deeply marked the landscape of the Ticino.

Monte Generoso is situated in the heart of a nature park known beyond Switzerland’s borders. Standing majestically on the mountain’s rugged plateau is the new “Fiore di pietra“(stone flower). The building was created by the famous architect Mario Botta and features picture windows that frame the breathtaking panorama. Two restaurants flooded with light and a conference room with magnificent mountain views provide the ideal setting for fine dining, unforgettable family celebrations and exceptional corporate events.
Situated on the eastern side of Monte Generoso, the Bear Cave has for thousands of years housed an important deposit consisting of a good number of finds from the cave bear (Ursus spelaeus), which lived in the area and has been extinct for about 20’000 years.
Elegant like amphitryons, the nevere (cold storage huts) stand proudly at the entrance to the alpine complex, almost as if they would like to receive the hikers who are wanting to know all about these relics of a civilization that is on the way to being extinct.

Pumptrack a Mendrisio: Just 15km from the campsite, challenge the forces involved to travel this track, between curves and humps, using the thrust of the body instead of pedalling. Throughout the region
Walking is a new but at the same time ancient practice. There is no need for particular preparation: good shoes, natural fiber fabrics and off you go. Ticino has the ideal breeding ground for embracing this sport. All routes are marked with official directional signs. The itineraries are located everywhere: in the Locarno area, in the Lugano area, around Bellinzona, and in the valleys.
